You’ve been an editor with Nature Reviews Microbiology previously. How did you get into editing? What are you currently doing?
Scientific editing was a career I first became interested in as I was writing up my PhD, and fortunately shortly after I’d finished a vacancy came up on Trends in Microbiology. So my first editorial position was on Trends in Microbiology, and after around 3 1/2 years there I moved to be part of the launch team on Nature Reviews Microbiology.
I left NRMicro after 11 years and I now work in the Grants Management department at the Wellcome Trust.
What was your favourite part of being an editor for Nature Reviews Microbiology?
I loved working as part of a team dedicated to the journal, including a copy editor and an art editor. To have so many people working to make every aspect of each issue as good as possible was amazing.
From all the articles that you handled for the journal, is there one that you particularly remember and that stands out? If so, can you tell us why?
I couldn’t possibly pick one! Some were fun to be involved with as they were done quickly and helped to define an emerging research area, and others were satisfying as they took years of cajoling and coaxing!
