A New Community on Global Health Diagnostics

Global Health Delivery Online (GHDonline) provides a platform of professional virtual communities for health care delivery professionals to discuss and share resources with colleagues. GHDonline recently launched the Global Health Diagnostics community to share questions, successes, and lessons learned to advance the field of global health diagnostics.

Imagine having to treat diseases without a diagnosis! Despite the critical importance of diagnosis, diagnostic testing and laboratory capacity receive much less attention than vaccines and drugs in the global health arena. Despite recent investments in global health diagnostics, the potential for diagnostics to generate value for patients and health systems has not been met across all settings, particularly in low-and middle-income countries where disease burdens are high, and diagnosis remains a big gap in care cascades.

In this context, a new community has been launched by Global Health Delivery Online (GHDonline), with professionals ranging from clinicians, policy-makers, researchers, implementers, and advocates, who are sharing questions, successes, and lessons learned to advance the field of global health diagnostics.

GHDonline hosts more than 21,000 professionals from 185 countries representing over 7,500 organizations, and the new community on Global Health Diagnostics already has nearly 600 members from 130 countries. The community is sponsored by FIND, McGill Global Health Programs, and McGill International TB Centre, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

In this new community, professionals are currently discussing topics such as diagnosis of scrub typhus and rickettsial infections, scale-up of HIV self-testing, access to chest radiography for TB diagnosis, WHO's proposal for an essential diagnostics list, diagnosis of Zika, and more.

GHDonline membership is free and open to the public. Anyone can create an account to join these discussions in the Global Health Diagnostics community.
